Since leaving Corrie, sex god Richard Fleeshman, 18, has switched from acting to music. Now, he is taking to Look about heartache and why he’s a mummy’s boy.
Q: Your ex-girlfriend of two years, Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallettt, is seven years older than you. Do you like older women?
A: I just like women! I don’t have boxes that need to be ticked or anything. Someone who genuine is the top thing I want. I think people are so ready to criticise. I don’t like that, I think being genuine is the most attractive thing in a woman. Honest and fine and firing (as in fir) would be a plus, too!
Q: Was it difficult to have your first relationship in the public eye?
A: It can be hard. Relationships are hard whoever you are. There are added pressures being in the public eye. But it’s up to me how much I involve myself with the press. If I keep my head down, do my job and live my life normally, a lot of the time I’m left alone.
Q: How did it feel to have your break up with Roxanne in the papers?
A: My mum, explained it well when she said for all the money you earn, there’ll be taxes to pay. If you have fame, for all the perks there’s the fame tax, which is that downside.
Q: Are you still in contact with Roxanne?
A: Absolutely. It’s just one of those things. People break up every day. It wasn’t out of the ordinary.
Q: Do your mum and sisters vet the women you take home?
A: Every mum in the world does that don’t they? Course they do! I’m so similar to my mum, though, and anyone I liked enough to take home, she’d like too.
Q: Tell us bout your best valentine’s
A: It was when I was 10 years old at a Valentines ball. I was so excited. We all arrived and the boys stood on one side of the hall and the girls were on the other. We burst balloons, but I didn’t get a snog!
Q: And your worst one?
A: I haven’t had one. I’ve had mates do bad things like break up with a girl before
Valentine’s and get back with her afterwards so they didn’t have to buy a present.
Q: What’s the best thing about you as a boyfriend?
A: How long have you got? (Laughs) I try to get along with everyone. I don’t like falling out with people.
Q: And the worst thing?
A: I’m very competitive. I’m a very bad loser. It annoys me when people go: ‘it’s only a game.’ No it’s not – its life or death. You don’t know the importance of Scrabble!
Q: You’re quite buff. Are you obsessed with your looks?
A: I do work out. Only because I enjoy it. I eat loads so I try to play as much sport as I can, usually football, tennis or badminton. And I go to the gym every day.
Q: where did you wake up today?
A: In a hotel. I’m flat hunting in London. If anyone has a two-bed flat to sell, let me know1
Q: What are you doing tonight?
A: I’m off to Manchester to see my mum and dad. I’m going to have some home cooking – stock up on my vegetables. I don’t just rely on my mm. I have a wok and I put everything in it. Thanks to the ok, everything tastes good!
Q: What’s on you iPod?
A: I love Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Phil Collins, Jimi Hendrix, Coldplay, The Hoosiers, Muse, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys and Scouting for Girls.
Q: You were a soapstar and now you’re a pop signer. What’s your next master plan?
A: I’m living the dream. All I’ve ever wanted to be was a musician. So I’m having the time of my life!
Q: So, are you looking forward to fans flinging themselves at you?
A: Let’s say it’s not something I’m sitting here worrying about!
Q: Had any strange presents?
A: I got a pair of knickers once at Corrie. I’ve haven’t got any stalkers, but there still time!
